Once again ASLEF members on London Underground have shown their overwhelming support for their union with a 97.3 % Yes vote in favour of industrial action to protect working conditions and agreements.
With no funding agreement between TfL and the Government in place, we know that our members pay, pensions and conditions are going to be targeted. The Government have been absolutely explicit that pension and workforce "modernization" will be tied to any funding settlement. That is why we asked London Underground for a commitment that all agreements would be honoured and any changes be made only by agreement. Their failure to give that commitment led to this ballot, which renews the mandate to take action if necessary, that our members gave last year.
In separate ballots, members on London Underground passenger services, Test Trains and Transplant engineering drivers have all returned large Yes votes that far exceed the thresholds set by the Governments' attempts to prevent Trade Unions taking effective action.
LU members voted in favour of action by 97.3 % while Test Train drivers returned an amazing 100% Yes. Transplant members returned a 92.7% Yes vote.
The ASLEF Executive Committee will now decide on the next steps in this dispute and we will update members on all developments. One thing is very clear; ASLEF members will never sit idly by and allow the agreements we worked so hard to achieve to be eroded or undermined
Thank you to all our members, reps and activists whose hard work have delivered these excellent results. With your support, ASLEF will continue to protect and improve conditions at work.
