TfL Unions demand funding to protect services and jobs.
Next Wednesday July 15th at 18;00, trade unions across TfL are coming together in an online rally to demand full Government funding to keep London's public transport services operating and no cuts to our members terms and conditions.
Without proper funding London is facing cuts to services and the loss of vital investment in a sustainable and accessible public transport system. The Step Free access program, travel concessions for young people and for Freedom Pass holders are all at risk.
At the start of the pandemic, public transport workers were praised as heroes; now the government intends to use Covid-19 as an excuse to attack them. The Prime Minister has already declared that he will tie future funding to staff cuts and "driverless " trains.
Even before the pandemic, TfL finances were under huge pressure as the ending of the operational grant led to a huge programme of savings; more than £1 billion has already been cut from operational costs in the last few years and thousands of jobs have gone under the “TfL transformation” programme.
London needs a properly resourced public transport system, accessible and affordable to all with a well trained and properly rewarded professional workforce.
